Conference and Gala of the IHES in New York

Certainly, geometry in the 21st century with physical application, will involve the study of new kinds of objects with categorical structures playing a primordial role. Maxim Kontsevich has been a force of nature in creating these new categorical structures in the last 20 years.
To celebrate his contributions to Mathematics and Physics and his recent Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics, a conference gathering two of its closest colaborators will be held on November 18th from 1:30pm to 5pm.

Friends of IHES will also organize its third Charity Gala on the Intrepid on November, 18th, from 6:30pm onwards. Recent scientific discoveries about Space have pushed Mathematics and Physics beyond the boundaries of theoretical science. Professor Thibault Damour, a renowned specialist in General Relativity, Cosmology and String Theory, and Permanent Professor at IHÉS, will expose his scientific and philosophical views about Space. Charles Simonyi, high-tech pioneer, philanthropist and space traveler, will share the excitement of his experiences onboard a Soyuz spacecraft. This evening will be a rare opportunity to meet and discuss with many top scientists from France and the US.

The Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) is an international basic research center based in France. IHÉS is dedicated to mathematics, theoretical physics and also new fields of research linked to biology and high technology. The Institute is one of the rare places that offers total freedom of research to its residents and since its inception in 1958, seven of its Permanent Professor we awarded the Fields Medal.
