2015 French-American Aid for Children Gala on May 8 at the Plaza Hotel in New York
New York (March 6, 2015) – The 2015 Bal des Berceaux hosted by the non-profit organization French-American Aid for Children, Inc. (FAAFC) will take place on May 8, 2015 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. For its 74th year, the gala will commemorate the 70-year Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day) as well as the 100th Anniversary of Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, a charity that FAAFC has been supporting since 1983. Proceeds of the ball will go to seven children’s charities, including Kips Bay, in the United States and France, strengthening the bonds of friendship between these two nations.
“We honor Kips Bay for their dedicated mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged children," says FAAFC President Marguerite Mangin. "They support the development of thousands of underprivileged youngsters in New York through their educational, artistic and athletic after-school programs. Providing such a constructive environment for children who might otherwise be out in the streets is exactly the kind of commitment that FAAFC requires from the charities it supports. It is also perfectly fitting that FAAFC, which was created at the beginning of Word War II, has its gala on the Armistice anniversary and shows our solidarity to France.”
The annual Bal des Berceaux was first held in 1942. It has been FAAFC’s main fundraising event since, raising more than half a million dollars in recent years. All funds are used to further FAAFC’s mission of “Children Come First”, and financially support selected charities that help deprived children in France and the United States. In recent past, special donations were also made to New York children affected by Hurricane Sandy, Surgeons of Hope in Nicaragua, and Forgotten Children of Haiti.
The 2015 Bal des Berceaux will feature special performances by talented young artists from Kips Bay K-company, and French singer Gérard Chambre will give a recital of legendary French and American songs. A live auction will be held with donations by distinguished international luxury houses. This year’s gala is under the patronage of His Excellencies Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France to the United States, and François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United Nations, and the Consul General of France in New York, Bertrand Lortholary. The chairs are Mariam Azarm, Lucila Vollbrechthausen and Margarita Somnolet.
