Homeland Security Minister in Visit to New York and Washington

During his busy three-day visit between June 27 and 29, France’s Minister of the Interior, Manuel Valls, met with top U.S. law enforcement and security officials in Washington and New York.
In Washington, Mr. Valls met Janet Napolitano, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security; Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General; Robert Mueller, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (LA.), who acts as a Member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.
On June 28 in New York City, Mr. Valls met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon. He then traveled to the headquarters of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), where he co-signed an exchange agreement for French and American police officers with Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
The minister later had a meeting with several representatives and organizations of the Jewish Community in New York.
Visits scheduled on June 29 as part of Mr. Valls’s program included seeing Ground Zero, where he laid a wreath in memory of the victims. He also met with the New York City Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano.
