Lady Liberty is 125 years old!

Lady Liberty is 125 years old! Her anniversary was celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2011, upon the National Park Service’s invitation, and with the presence of Mr. Ken Salazar, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Mr. Eric Straumann, French Deputy of the Haut-Rhin department, and Mr. Philippe Lalliot, Consul General of France in New York.

“Honor, History, Envision the Future”, this was the historical moment’s motto. The ceremony was an opportunity for recalling the unfailing friendship that exists between, and bonds France and the United States. The ceremony began with 125 American nationality candidates, of 40 different countries, officially receiving their American citizenship. Indeed, a tribute to the Statue, but also to millions of immigrants who, every year, set foot on the soil of Ellis Island with the hope of a better future.
