Saint-Germain-des-Prés: The New Look

JPEGThe French Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is rejuvenating. At a breakfast held at the Consulate General of France in New York on Tuesday December 6, 2011, Frédéric de Narp, President and CEO of Harry Winston Inc., presented an ambitious renovations project in front of the sponsors of the French Heritage Society.

Built during the 6th century by the Merovingian kings, the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the most ancient church in France, and one of the rarest examples of Roman art in Paris. The first part of renovations will be finished by the end of this year. But in order to fund the workings on the site, the Abbey wishes to involve American donators, and particularly the French Heritage Society, with which France maintains very close ties.

This is essential for preserving a most exceptional heritage. By doing so, we are also contribution to tightening the ties which unite our countries, France and the United States: ties of history, culture and art”, remarked Philippe Lalliot, Consul General of France in New York.
