  • World War II Veterans decoration ceremony

    On November 7th, a group of American Veterans were made Chevaliers of the French Legion of Honor for their engagement during World War II.
    The insignia of the Legion of Honor was bestowed upon the veterans by the Honorable Bertrand Lortholary, Consul general of France and Mr. Guy Wildenstein President of the American Society of the French Legion of Honor.
    This event was a commemoration of one of the most significant moments of the French-American friendship, as well as an occasion to reaffirm the unwavering ties between our two peoples.
    The ceremony was held at the Lycée français de New York on Friday, November 7th, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

  • Ceremony for the 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings at Liberty Island

    On June 6, 2014, the President of the French Republic welcomed the leaders of 18 nations, among whom President Barack Obama, for the ceremonies honoring the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

    The French Embassy in the United States, the Consulate General of France in New York and the association The French Will Never Forget organized, on the morning of that same day, a commemoration ceremony that was held at the foot of the Statue of Liberty, symbol of the French-American friendship.

    On the morning of June 6, the French frigate La Fayette anchored in New York bay, in front of the Statue of Liberty. At the same time, two large French and American flags were unfurled onto the lawns of Liberty Island, by students from French schools in New York and New Jersey, in the presence of World War II veterans.

    A million rose petals were then dropped onto the Statue of Liberty by three helicopters.

    Finally, during the ceremony that followed, Mr. Maurice Greenberg, a World War II veteran, received the insignia of the Legion of Honor from Mr. Bertrand Lortholary, Consul General of France in New York.

  • Two WWII Veterans Decorated

    On Monday, June 10th, 2013, Mr. Rocco Morretto and Mr. Jess E. Weiss, two American WWII Veterans, were decorated by the ACREFEU, an association regrouping French reserve military officials in the United States. Mr. Morretto and Mr. Weiss both took part in the Normandy Landings on June 6th, 1944 and they recounted to those present their memories of that historical day.
