Veterans Day 2024 - Discover the events organized in New York to honor our veterans [fr]

On November 11, as every year, we will mark Veterans Day with our American friends. Several events open to the public are organized in New York City, starting on October 26th.

Saturday, October 26, 2024
2:00 PM - Green-Wood Cemetery (500 25th Street, Brooklyn NY 11232)
At the initiative of the United War Veterans Council, veterans and dignitaries will gather to dedicate a memorial marker for Grace Banker, who led the very first unit of American women soldiers to France in World War I. The Consul General of France, Mr. Cédrik Fouriscot, will offer remarks on the importance of Grace Banker’s contribution to the freedom of France.

In November, the Federation of French War Veterans, with the participation of the American Society of the Souvenir Français Inc. and the Association of French Reserve Officers in the United States, invites you to various other events:

10:30 AM - Flushing Cemetery, French War Veterans Lot
Wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the memory of all the French War Veterans buried there, including Eugene Bullard, the first African-American combat pilot in history (recognized as such by the US Air Force in 2008), volunteer in the French Army as well as the Lafayette Flying Corps. The ceremony is also in memory of 25 French Navy sailors who died in 1918 from Spanish flu. They were serving on board three cruisers: Montcalm, Marseillaise, and Gloire. Three of them have been repatriated to their families in France. The Deputy Consul General of France in New York, Mrs. Myriam Gil, will attend and offer remarks.

11:00 AM - Armistice Mass at Église Notre-Dame (405 West 114th Street)
Father SEBASTIEN will celebrate Mass, with flag bearers present. After Mass, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held in memorial to the dead of the First and Second World Wars, with a specific Tribute to the 28 volunteers of the American Field Service of WWI.

11:30 am - Fifth Avenue
Watch the annual Veterans Day parade on Fifth Avenue, which will depart from 24th Street at 11:30 AM. The Consul General of France, Mr. Cédrik Fouriscot, will march with the Federation of French War Veterans, the American Society of the Souvenir Français Inc., the Association of French Reserve Officers in the United States, and French civic associations including the Association des Alsaciens.
